By participating in the Ocean 180 Video Challenge, middle school students around the world have the chance to see science in action, viewing and evaluating the top 10 video abstracts submitted by ocean scientists. After the votes are tallied and the winners are announced, we invite students judges to participate in the annual Student-Scientist Summit with the scientists behind the top submissions.
On March 26th, 2015, over 600 middle school students who participated as judges in the Ocean 180 Video Challenge joined three of the winning scientists for an hour-long virtual assembly. Student judges around the world had the chance to ask the scientists questions about their research, video abstracts, and careers in ocean science.
A full recording of the event is available below.
Please note that due to technical complications, the live-feed of the scientists and students on camera will not appear until approximately 5.5 minutes into the recording. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Special thanks to the students at St. Andrew's Episcopal Academy in Fort Pierce, Florida and the Smithsonian Marine Ecosystems Exhibit for helping us with the introduction to the Summit recording.
